What is ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT Therapy?


The Six Core Processes of ACT include:







  • Acceptance: open up to the experience of unpleasant thoughts and feelings
  • Cognitive Defusion: the ability to recognize thoughts as thoughts, and not be consumed by them
  • Being Present: be in the now, versus the past or future
  • Self as Context: step back and watch what is happening to you from and outside perspective
  • Values: engage in behavior consistent with what you stand for and what is most important to you 
  • Committed Action: take effective action in a way that is consistent with your value
